Established in 1998 as a response to devolution, Groundwork Wales leads the collective operation of the Welsh Trusts and supports them by promoting their excellent track record, contributing to policy development and raising resources for the future development of Groundwork.

We help to secure funding and develop key programmes and partnerships in collaboration with the Trusts. We also work to increase integration with the wider Groundwork Federation and take the lead in the development of the Groundwork network in Wales, examining the potential for new or extended Trusts.

Groundwork Wales is a member of the key national environmental and community regeneration partnerships. Our Director represents the local Trusts on the Sustainable Development Forum for Wales, Wales Environment Link and the Social Economy Network.  Through our advocacy role we feed practice in to policy and have played a key role in developing government agendas in areas including business and environment and the social economy.

We have a remit to work across Wales and deliver a number of Wales-wide programmes.  The Environmental Business Services programme focuses upon improving the environmental and economic performance of businesses to enhance competitiveness.  The Sustainable Communities programme encompasses Groundwork’s role in the Communities First Support Network and Environment Wales, managing our Objective 1 People, Places and Prosperity project, which is about capacity building in communities and in Groundwork itself, and taking a strategic lead on projects across the Trusts that focus on health, youth, education and community development.

Executive Director - Ian McIntosh
